The Lillingtons- Stella Sapiente
While I was beyond happy to see The Lillingtons back to being fully active once more with the recent release of “Project 313”, which by all accounts is one of the finest pop punk 7”s that’s seen the light of day in some time; I was waiting for more. They had started to take a stylistic turn towards a certain evolvement when their song “Pyramids” was released back in 2014 that I really liked and was hoping to see how it would play out. This was answered in the form of their first full length LP that’s been released in more than a decade called “Stella Sapiente”. Each of the 12 tracks on this record is it’s own unique little shadowy realm with a very Lillingtons strong anchor at it’s base surrounded by elements of uncharted territory for them ranging from beautifully arranged classic metal sounding guitars to brilliant atmospheric notes of post punk, and even experimentation that reaches into an almost industrial realm. The lyrics are also perfectly shaped to match the sounds touching into the occult, astrology, conspiracy, and other darkness in its many forms. To put it simply, “Stella Sapiente” is a magnificent snapshot of growth and rebirth for Kody, Alex, Cory, and Tim in this moment. The combination of this lineup manifests something fresh and exciting which is very needed in my opinion for a genre that tends to stay a bit too stuck in the same few patterns. It was aptly released on Friday the 13th of this month and just sets a wonderful tone for Autumn, so make sure to grab a copy and get it spinning on your turntable before it's gone!
